New Named team members, part 1

We haven’t had time to blog in a while, sorry about that! But to be honest, we are in the middle of a veeery busy season, as we are finishing our SS14 collection, and on top of that, running multiple different development projects. First of all, there’s this ‘mysterious new product/service development project’ – yes, we are planning to launch a new kind of product, and if all goes well with the test groups, it will be available for everyone to purchase sometime next spring! Yaiks!

Another thing is that we are developing and improving the whole Named concept, and therefore running a little survey (in which you can take part here). We are collecting our customers’ opinions and experiences regarding our products, and the aim is to improve them so that the next collection would be as easy to use as possible, and meet our customers’ needs.

So, it’s obvious that we would never ever have time to do all this by ourselves, and therefore we are happy to receive some help from two Metropolia students (same school that our own Saara went to earlier). These two girls, Niina and Krista are temporarily complementing our team, Niina by conducting the pattern survey, and Krista in charge of the product development process. They have even been nice enough to take some time from their busy projects to introduce themselves and their projects to our readers, here’s Niina’s letter to you:

“Hello everyone!

My name is Niina and I’m a fourth year Clothing and Fashion student from Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences. I’m doing a project for the Named girls, Saara and Laura, as my final thesis. As you probably have noticed, we launched a survey about the Named patterns and services. Based on the feedback you give through the survey I’m also going to design a small pattern collection for Named. So I’m really excited and interested to hear from you!

I started to study sewing, designing and pattern making in vocational school. From there I got the inspiration to become a patternmaker. I found the process of patternmaking fascinating. It was interesting to learn how lines drawn on a paper can turn into wearable clothing in real life. That’s why I wanted to continue my studies after vocational school in Metropolia and learn more, especially about patternmaking. This spring I also got the chance to study pattern design for four months as an exchange student at the TEKO VIA University College in Denmark. I have found all my studies very interesting and inspiring and I wish to work with fashion and pattern design in the future as well.

I have sewn clothes for myself ever since I first got in front of a sewing machine back in elementary school. Back then I also used to borrow craft magazines from the library to get patterns for my sewing projects. Some of the magazines used to have competitions for young designers. I sometimes dreamed of having my own design patterns published in one of those magazines. That’s why this project with Named is kind of a childhood dream come true for me. So, I’m very thrilled and excited about this whole project with Named and curious to hear your thoughts and opinions!

-Niina”

Aren’t we lucky to have such hard working and inspired people to help us make our products and services better? I think so! Krista’s introduction post coming soon, too. And by the way, if you haven’t filled in our survey form yet, there’s still time. The survey is open until 24th of November, and among all participants we will raffle eight Named patterns for free!

Best,
Named team

I’m absolutely impressed with Named- the style, aesthetic and philosophy. I’m so excited to make your clothes because it’s definitely my look and the lookbook concept is so pro; you would think that these are actual garments you can buy. Love, love, love!
